Deriving from the Greek word ‘kelos,’ meaning burned, Celosia are sometimes called cockscombs or woolflowers.

They are known for their odd shaped flower clusters, of which there are two types: plume type ("Plumosa") and crested type ("Cristata").  The flowers come in brilliant shades of pink, orange, red, gold and purple.
